Groundwater may not be covered by insurance.

As a homeowner, many people feel safe knowing that they have insurance protecting their home.  One common misconception is that all water damage is covered by their homeowner insurance.  Many policies will not cover water that landed on the ground, and subsequently flowed into the home.  This can include rainwater, river runoff, and drenched ground surrounding your home. If you are not sure that your policy covers groundwater, you can check with your carrier.  if you believe that you may be at risk for this type of damage, you can take action.  You may be able to purchase additional coverage on your homeowner policy, or purchase a separate flood insurance policy.
